Hip Hop’s Rise in the West Coast

This Afghan-Canadian hip hop artist is taking the music industry by storm one step at a time. Ahmed Dabir, known on stage as Kresnt, has successfully released his new project The Lunar Phase. His single In Your Place was released as a music video in April 2018 and has amazingly skyrocketed to two million views. With the release of his album, Kresnt hosted a sold out listening party in Vancouver to celebrate the work and talent of his very own music.

Born In Afghanistan, Kresnt proudly expresses his love for Afghani culture through his visual work, whether its photoshoots or music videos. At a young age, Kresnt had a passion for music and would freestyle or take part in rap battles in high school. With that fueled passion, he was able to create a solid career path for himself, gaining connections and working with those who were the best in the industry.

For instance, Kresnt’s producer Ken Lewis, who helped produce and engineer his six track EP, is a fifty-five Grammy nominated producer who has worked alongside Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, Wu-Tang Clan, Drake, and much more. He has done work behind many well known songs/singles such as: All of the Lights (Kanye West), The Blacker the Berry (Kendrick Lamar), Girl on Fire (Ariana Grande), Born to Die (Lana Del Rey), and so much more. It’s wild.
