The largely government funded world of cancer research can take many different routes. From identifying causes, to strategies on further prevention and treatments, research on the matter is being conducted every single day. Holly Russell, a student attending UVIC under the Bio Chemistry program, explains the recent success in the lab.
Through our research, we discovered that there are a lot of similarities between breast cancer and ovarian cancer cells. Uh, for this reason, we have been testing the drugs that were successful on these breast cancer cells, on the ovarian cancer cells. There’s been some successes and these successes have lead to clinical trials where we are testing the drugs on actual patients.
Russell explained that although it is common to test a certain cancer drug on various types of cancer, she is hopeful for a positive outcome during the trials.
