Petition to end Canadian Blood Ban gaining strength

A blood ban affecting Gay or Bisexual men and Transgender women may soon be lifted.

A petition started by MoveUp aims to remove the Blood ban which does not allow people identifying with these labels to give blood unless they have not been sexually active for at least 12 months.

Annette Toth the vice president of MoveUp tells NEWS1130, she wants the Federal Liberal government to end this discrimination. She says:

Our goal, really, is to get over 10,000 signatures and to tell the Prime Minister and the federal Liberal government that it’s time to end discrimination in Canada.

The MoveUp petition ends on July 17th.
