iPhonniversary

Can you believe that just a little over 10 years ago Steve Jobs announced the release of the very first iPhone? Imagine what technology would be like today is something like that had never been introduced into the world. Heck, imagine what life would be like if you didn’t have the handy dandy mini computer in your back pocket at all times.

The introduction of the iPhone had everyone on their toes, in my personal opinion it set the bar for what mobile phones could be and should be! Without the introduction of the iPhone I don’t think many other companies would have made the leap from flip or slide T9 phones to the touch screens we have now. At least not for a couple more years. After all, the iPhone promoted the competition of advancing mobile technology. If it hadn’t come out at the time it did, there’s no denying we would have been set back at least a few years in terms of cellphone use. The introduction sparked such competition to the point of companies introducing new phones and succeeding, while others tried to do the same thing and failed abysmally. The competition even drove some phone companies down to the point of dropping them off the face of the earth. (Remember Blackberry?)

Would mobile phones become as big as they are now if the iPhone hadn’t been introduced? Just about everyone you know now has a cell phone. And landlines are becoming less and less of a common thing, at least among the younger generations. Would society have been so ‘antisocially social’? Think about it, would Snapchat or Instagram have worked on your Motorola Razor? Maybe the world would be better because of this. BUT, without the advancement of the iPhone and others like it we also wouldn’t be so in touch with the news and what’s going on in the world. It’s trippy, sure, but thinking back and trying to unravel what would be different and how things would have progressed without the iPhone is just absolutely mind boggling, there’d be pros for sure. But there’d also be cons.

Got some ideas about what the world would be like without the iPhone? Let us know! Over the course of the past 10 years, what would change? What would still be the same?
