This course introduces the fundamental principles of building science including heat transfer, vapour diffusion, air flow, and moisture management. Hands-on exercises will be employed to better understand the effect of environmental loads on the building enclosure performance. Students will review the key properties of common construction materials and appropriate applications for said materials. Students will develop their knowledge of building science to support and inform strategies to meet the BC Energy Step Code.
This course helps the students advance their construction knowledge and skills with respect to building envelope design, construction and performance verification. The course focuses on specific strategies to ensure airtightness of final assembly with an emphasis on detailed solutions for managing critical control barriers in various assemblies with a focus on residential buildings (Part 9 Buildings). This course focuses on the knowledge and skills needed to ensure correct HRV commissioning in residential projects. Through interactive learning and hands-on commissioning activities, students will become familiar with different types of HRV’s and have the confidence to both commission equipment and provide expertise on system selection and installation. This course is aimed at Energy Advisors, HVAC contractors, and building inspectors requiring the knowledge and skills to take responsibility for HRV installation and commissioning.
This five day course provides the knowledge and practical hands-on skills that building contractors, designers, consultants and advanced students need to build to the Passive House standard; an internationally recognized ultra-low energy standard. This course focuses on building enclosure optimization and provides a foundation in passive house principles, while stressing the importance of construction fundamentals and proper sequencing and using a variety of materials. An introduction to heat and energy recovery ventilators will be provided.
