The BCIT Centre for Energy Systems Applications (CESA) was formed with a primary mandate to provide industry training.
Training provided by CESA can currently be divided into two primary areas within demand side management and one within supply side management.
Demand Side Management
The Sustainable Energy Management Advanced Certificate is designed to support employment opportunities in the emerging field of sustainable energy management, with focus on the energy demands of commercial, institutional, industrial and community facilities.
The Building Controls and Management Advanced Certificate was developed in partnership with industry to meet the growing need for individuals with both energy management and building controls expertise. The aim of this program is to supply industry with graduates who can use controls and building automation systems to improve energy efficiency. This includes integration of this knowledge in all phases of a building’s life: sustainable design, construction, commissioning, and ongoing operation.
The CESA High Efficiency Lighting Series introduces participants to lighting technology and design, retrofit and design options and economic analysis and maintenance.
The CESA Residential Energy Series starts with a demand side course to make sure your home is as efficient as possible.
The Community Energy Management courses will provide the knowledge and resources you need to manage the art and science of saving energy, emissions, and money across the community. This inter-disciplinary sequence of six on-line courses provides a unique opportunity to refresh disciplines that you are already familiar with by viewing them through an energy lens while introducing new tools and concepts.
The CESA Energy Modelling Course introduces the principles, procedures and benefits of energy modelling to enable building professionals to usefully and efficiently incorporate energy modelling into the design process. This will include a review of building orientation, envelope design, space configurations and massing, opportunities to minimize the need for mechanical equipment (e.g., passive design and net-zero solutions).
BCIT’s High Performance Building courses. This five day course provides the knowledge and practical hands-on skills that building contractors, designers, consultants and advanced students need to build to the Passive House standard; an internationally recognized ultra-low energy standard.
Supply Side Management
The CESA Solar Hot Water Series introduces participants to solar hot water systems including equipment, maintenance, and introductory system design concepts.
The CESA Photovoltaic Series introduces participants to photovoltaic systems including equipment, maintenance, related electric code, grid tie-in, and introductory system design concepts.
The CESA Residential Energy Series finish with a supply side course to help you come up with some solutions to renewable energy at home.
