BCIT Fireweed Podcast – Finding a Balance

After the devastation of a forest fire, the first plant to grow back is fireweed. A vibrant wildflower from the Pacific Northwest, fireweed symbolizes hope, resilience, and adaptability—things we could all use a little more of right now.

During a period of profound adjustment in the way we work, learn, and socialize, BCIT set out to inspire with stories of resilience and adaptability on the new podcast series Fireweed.

Building cities has traditionally meant altering or destroying the natural environment, but it doesn’t have to be like that. Episode 2 features Christina Olsen from the Centre for Ecocities about her vision for healthy urban centres, and from Mark Angelo about why it’s vital to protect and restore the natural features within our urban limits. Centre for Ecocities Featured at COP26

The 26th Conference of the Parties (COP26) is in full swing in Glasgow, Scotland. This annual United Nations Climate Change Conference will run October 31 – November 12, 2021. The summit brings together governments, non-profit organizations, and others from around the world to make efforts toward the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.

The first of the public events at COP26 was a session titled “Catalysing our Net Zero Future: working with people to take action on climate change”. [Read more…]

Ecocity Peer Network and Climate Changemakers at Innovate4Cities

Throughout the month, organizations around the world take part in events related to sustainable communities. Centre for Ecocities team members took the opportunity to share some of our work at Innovate4Cities, an international gathering co-hosted by UN-Habitat, the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy (GCoM) and the IPCC.
