As BC's largest provincial provider of computing courses and applied diploma graduates, BCIT Computing grads work throughout our tech sector and beyond. We have over 30 different applied programs, well-recognized credentials, and a reputation for job-ready graduates.
Our outreach goal is to help encourage interest and promote diversity in Computing and STEM. We often participate in activities to help introduce prospective students to computing, and IT careers, from students still in the K-12 system to mature professionals looking to change careers.
This year we have a number of events to encourage young girls and women to pursue interests and choose careers in Computing by increasing their knowledge of and access to Computing opportunities. According to the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), the likelihood of a girl enrolled in Grade 1 in Canada going on to receive a PhD in science or engineering is one in 223, which is half the likelihood of boys in the same age group. We want to grow a community that invests their time, expertise and resources in correcting this imbalance.
