Company Overview

The British Columbia Securities Commission (BCSC) is the independent provincial government agency responsible for regulating securities trading in the province of British Columbia through the administration of the Securities Act.

Description

Investigative Trading Analyst

Starting salary range $50,000 – $65,000 per annum

The Investigative Trading Analyst is responsible for analytical and support functions relating to preliminary assessments and investigations of insider trading and market manipulation offences. Major responsibilities include:

  • requesting, receiving and processing data relevant to trading reviews by using various computer systems and software applications, contacting investment dealers, reporting issuers and other market participants, liaising with other securities regulators and stock exchanges, and accessing public information sources;
  • identifying, compiling and organizing relevant evidence from a variety of sources;
  • conducting or assisting with trading reviews, analyses and investigations;
  • preparing clear and concise memoranda, correspondence and reports; and
  • gathering and presenting evidence for administrative hearings and court proceedings.

The Investigative Trading Analyst reports to the Manager of Case Assessment in the Enforcement Division.

The qualifications for this position include:

  • a degree or diploma in business, finance, or related discipline from a recognized university/college;
  • a few years of relevant work experience;
  • completion of the Canadian Securities Course and other relevant courses would be an asset;
  • superior interpersonal and oral and written communication skills;
  • strong analytical skills, drive, judgment, initiative and creativity;
  • excellent organizational, prioritization and time management skills;
  • ability to work independently and in a team environment; and
  • knowledge of the securities industry, the securities legislation, trading systems and/or trading practices would be an asset.

Criminal Analysis Assistant (Research Assistant) (SPS-ADM-02)

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Graduation with a degree from a recognized university, college or institution OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Degree equivalency

Some ability to collect, collate and analyze information in order to assist in the preparation of analytical product.

Some ability to present information in various formats such as written assessments, statistical summaries, link charts and crime maps to meet specific needs.

Several* years of experience in computer programs such as Microsoft (Access, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Word, i2 Analyst’s Notebook, iBase, ArcGIS and SPSS.

* Several means two (2) or more years
