| Pet and animal waste is often overlooked, yet it poses a serious risk to water quality. Dogs, cats, and waterfowl are the major problem. Their droppings contain disease-causing organisms that are harmful to humans and wildlife. In addition, the decomposition of these wastes causes the oxygen in streams and lakes to become depleted, threatening the lives of fish and other aquatic animals. |

I Pledge to: |
Never hose pet waste down storm drains, but keep my yard clean of pet waste by disposing of it in the following ways:
- In the sanitary sewer, with plastic disposal bags placed in the garbage.
- In a special compost for pet waste only, with the addition of lime two to three times a year.
"Scoop" up waste and dispose of it properly when I walk my pet. |
Keep my pet on a leash, particularly near waterways, and to only allow my pet to run free in parks with designated "off-leash areas". |
Reduce the problem of waterfowl waste on the ground by NOT feeding ducks and geese in our parks and public areas. |
