#2 Lawn Care
The chemicals that we put on our lawns can be a threat to streams and lakes. Excessive use of pesticides and fertilizers, combined with excessive watering, will deliver these chemicals to creeks via storm drains. There are many ways to maintain a healthy lawn without causing harm to the environment.

Amazing Fact!
Leaving your grass clippings on the lawn increases soil fertility by up to 30%.
Amazing Fact!
A gasoline lawnmower pollutes as much in one hour as a car driven for 560 kilometres!

I Pledge to:

A Use my grass clippings as a natural fertilizer. I can let them lie, use a mulching mower, or simply compost them.
B Mow with a non-power mower (rain delivers air pollution into creeks).
C Cut my grass higher (just the top third) to increase water absorption, reduce run-off, and reduce water consumption.
D Reduce the area of lawn covering my yard by landscaping with native shrubs and ground cover — it reduces maintenance and attracts wildlife!
E Aerate my lawn to discourage weed growth and improve water absorption.
F Allow my lawn to go dormant during dry weather to save water and reduce run-off (less mowing too!).
