BURNABY, BC: In a Town Hall meeting today with faculty, staff and management, BCIT President Don Wright announced his plans to step down from his position effective February 27, in order to prepare for an opportunity in the BC Public Service if the NDP form the government after the May election.

Commenting on his decision Wright said it had been a very difficult one, “I have consistently said over the past five years that being President of BCIT was the best job of my career and I have always meant that, and continue to believe so.  Having said that, I have spent much of my career in the Public Service and there are some positions that one feels obliged to take if they are offered, and this is one such opportunity,” Wright added.

“I humbly believe I am leaving BCIT in a good place and I am sincerely confident that BCIT’s unique value to BC society will be increasingly recognized and invested in going forward,” said Wright.

The BCIT Board of Governors have confirmed that Chris Golding,VP Institute Planning, Learning and Technology Services, will take on the role of Acting President upon Wright’s departure and while the search for a replacement is undertaken.
