Don Wright named chair of Polytechnics Canada

Don Wright, president of the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT), is the new Chair of Polytechnics Canada.

Dr. Wright was unanimously elected to the position at the Polytechnics Canada annual meeting here on May 5 and 6.

“I am honoured to have this role at Polytechnics Canada,” Wright said. “The members of Polytechnics Canada provide high-quality graduates who are career-ready, and this means our educational programming closely matches the skills demanded by industry. In this way, we will help business and industry solve a variety of challenges across Canada.”

Polytechnics Canada is an alliance of ten research-intensive, internationally recognized post-secondary institutions committed to helping colleges and industry create high-quality jobs for the future.

President of BCIT since March 2008, Dr. Wright has worked in the academic, government and private sectors. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Saskatchewan, a MA in Economics from the University of British Columbia and a PhD in Economics from Harvard University.

Humber College President John Davies, who chaired Polytechnics Canada since 2009, steps down to become the organization’s new Treasurer. George Brown President Anne Sado was chosen as Vice-Chair of Polytechnics Canada.

The ten Polytechnics Canada members are: Algonquin College, British Columbia Institute of Technology, Conestoga, George Brown College, Humber, Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT), Olds College, SAIT Polytechnic, Seneca and Sheridan.
