BCIT students and alumni excel at 17th Annual Skills Canada BC Competition

April 20 saw over 300 high-school and post-secondary students from across British Columbia compete in the 17th annual BC Skills Competition, held at Tradex in Abbotsford. With 40 competition categories ranging from aircraft maintenance to welding, students took on practical challenges designed to test—and prove—that they’ve got the skills to excel in trades and technology occupations.

At the end of the day-long competition, 15 BCIT students emerged with medals after outstanding performances in a variety of categories.

Gold medalists Carson Warner (Cabinetmaking), Mirko Maras (Industrial Maintenance [Millwright]), Mandeep Saggu (Industrial Wiring), Owen Arsenault (CNC), and Siegfried Baumann (Precision Machining) now have an opportunity to represent BC in the Canadian Skills Competition, held from June 2-3 in Quebec.
