BCITMA team lands spot in case study competition finals

Out of 107 entries for this year’s American Marketing Association Collegiate Case Competition, the BCIT Marketing Association (BCITMA) has earned a top 10 placement and qualified for the finals in New Orleans on March 24, 2011.

“This is an outstanding achievement for the students involved,” said Geoffrey Bird, an instructor in the Marketing Management program.

Last December, amidst end-of-year assignments and final exams, the BCITMA case team accumulated three months of research and work and submitted an integrated marketing communications plan to launch a $20 million campaign for Nintendo.

The final stage of the competition will see a team of five present their case to a judging panel, selected  by Nintendo, at the annual AMA Collegiate Conference.

“My congratulations to Natasha Gowda and Winnie Hsiao (both second year Marketing Communications students) who have been the team leads and the many Marketing Association students that supported them through the first stage of the competition,” said Geoffrey. “Also a great deal of thanks goes to Karen Plesner for her support in guiding the team through their exhaustive research.”

The other schools that made the top 10 were all top-rated universities in the US, including Carnegie Melon University, Kent State University, Liberty University, Pennsylvania State University, University of Arizona – Tucson, University of Nevada-Las Vegas, University of Nevada-Reno, University of Pennsylvania, and University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
