HSBC Bank Canada donates $50,000 to support the 30th annual World Rivers Day

While most of us were beating the heat this weekend by catching breezes at the beach or sticking to air-conditioned climes, a dedicated group from The Rivers Institute at BCIT and the B.C. Women’s Network of HSBC Bank Canada were wielding pickaxes and shovels—all in an effort to help clean-up and restore Guichon Creek on BCIT’s Burnaby Campus. The volunteers planted native vegetation around the creek followed by a tour in which they learned about various plant species and native vegetation.

The work party marked a new $50,000 contribution from HSBC Bank Canada in support of World Rivers Day, which celebrates its 30th anniversary on September 26.

“We are very grateful to HSBC Bank Canada for providing this critical funding and support of World Rivers Day,” says World Rivers Day founder, chair of the Rivers Institute and Order of Canada recipient Mark Angelo. “This is a great example of how local businesses and residents can take action in restoring and conserving their local environment.”
