BCIT hosts provincial FIRST Lego League Championship Tournament

Nearly 200 children ages nine to 14 filled the Burnaby Campus gymnasium on Saturday, January 9 in a bid to solve the world’s transportation problems—one LEGO block at a time.

This, the seventh annual BC FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Championship Tournament, saw eighteen teams from across the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island compete to build and move LEGO robots through a series of challenges on a timed circuit. This year’s “Smart Move” theme explored transportation issues and the logistical problems associated with moving people, goods, and services in the safest, most efficient way possible.

The first-place finishers from this provincial event, a team from Victoria called the Circuit Stormers, were awarded the Championship Award and received an invitation to the FLL European Open Championship in Istanbul, Turkey this April.
