Community Awareness Workshop
- One or two-day workshop that provides an overview of the mineral
exploration and mining industry and the opportunities these industries
provide to Aboriginal people in British Columbia. Includes a brief
introduction to geology and a field trip to a local geology site.
- The seminars are run across BC in local communities
MINE 1001 - Minerals Entry Level Course: Basic Prospecting, Mineral Exploration and Mining
- This is a two week course for those who want to pursue the opportunities
in the minerals industry beyond the community workshop. The first
week is basic geology and mineral deposits while the second week
focuses on mineral exploration methods and field and prospecting
skills. This is an entry-level course with student-centred instruction.
There is no pre-requisite other than an interest to learn and
explore opportunities in the minerals industry.
- This course is run across BC in local communities, towns or
cities. It has been delivered to 250 students in 10 Aboriginal communities during 2006 - 2008.
Associate Certificate in Minerals Discovery
- This new program is delivered in three 5-week blocks, for a total of 15 weeks. Students may enter and start the Program in any block and will earn as Associate Certificate upon completion. Employment counselling and high school upgrading are emphasized. Preferred entrance requirements are completion
of grade 10 or higher including math 10 and science 10. Courses include the following: Introduction to Geology, Written and Oral Communication, Field School I and II, First Aid Level i, Earth Resources, Electronic Resources for the Mineral Industry, Introduction to Mining, Surveying and GPS, Business of the Minerals Industry and Mineral Exploration Techniques.
- Courses from the Program have been delivered in Kamloops, Prince George and Saikuz Reserve in 2007 - 2008. The courses are not restricted to British Columbia and can be considered for wherever there is client interest.
