"This program will help lead to a win-win situation. Aboriginal people now have a pathway that assists them in getting training and in getting employment. The minerals sector benefits by accessing a stable workforce that by-and-large already resides near mineral exploration and mine sites throughout British Columbia." Dr. James Morin - Coordinator, Aboriginal Minerals Training Program

Jim Morin was born in St. Boniface, Manitoba of Metis ancestry. He followed a geology path through University of Manitoba and University of Saskatchewan (Ph.D). Early geological experience was in the Canadian Shield and from 1975 to 1987 he was involved with Department of Indian and Northern Affairs in Whitehorse, Yukon. For the next ten years, he worked as a geologist with INCO Limited on mineral exploration projects primarily in western North America.

He made a switch into teaching at the post-secondary level in 1999 with the Institute of Indigenous Government and Aboriginal Studies at Langara College, Vancouver. He has taught a wide variety of courses and mentored numerous Aboriginal students. Through education, he has rediscovered his Aboriginal heritage and celebrates it with his teaching. His main effort is now with BCIT in the Mining and Mineral Exploration Technology Program, where he delivers the Aboriginal Minerals Training Program. The Program's goal is to effectively engage Aboriginal people in training and participating in the minerals sector workforce in British Columbia.
