Avatar’s sequel is delayed again

A few months ago I wrote an article talking about James Cameron finishing the scripts for not only Avatar 2, but also 3, 4, and 5. According to Cameron, production was starting on the four films all at once, so that they could be finished faster. 2018 was the targeted year that the director was aiming to finish the film for and said it would be done by then. Many have speculated there would be no way that he could finish the movie by then when he has a plate full of work, including a new documentary series, James Cameron’s Story of Science Fiction. Well to no one’s surprise Avatar 2 has been delayed beyond 2018.

Cameron announced in an interview with The Star that the film will not be released in 2018. He went onto to say in the interview,

“What people need to understand is that this is a cadence of releases. So we’re not making Avatar 2. We’re making Avatar 2, 3, 4, and 5. It’s an epic undertaking. It’s not unlike building the Three Gorges dam.”

Well no crap! I honestly don’t understand why Fox even announced a release date in the first place. Taking on 4 movies at once while also working on Atlantis Rising and his sci-fi documentary series. Back in 2009 after the release of Avatar, Cameron stated he would create two sequels which then became four which clearly is slowing down the process of even creating one! Yeah, so 2018 isn’t happening and now there’s no specific date or year. Cool beans.

I’ll continue to keep you all updated on Avatar news, but at this pace expect the sequel to be out when we’re all dead.
