Brownfields can be defined as “abandoned, vacant, derelict or underutilized commercial or industrial properties where past actions have resulted in actual or perceived contamination and where there is an active potential for redevelopment.”
(National Round Table on the Environment and the Economy, 2003)
British Columbia Institute of Technology’s School of Construction and the Environment in collaboration with University of British Columbia’s Continuing Studies is offering a series of courses in Brownfield Redevelopment. The series of 5 courses are in support of the B.C. Brownfield Renewal Strategy. The purpose of the program is to provide current and prospective practitioners in the brownfield redevelopment industry with the relevant knowledge and skills within an interdisciplinary framework.
We anticipate offering all the courses, or a selection of the courses in the Fall of 2012. Please contact the BCIT Program Head, Steve Finn, for further details on upcoming courses and/or to be placed on the waitlist for future course offerings.
