Simon Fraser University President Andrew Petter and Chancellor Carole Tyler announced a new strategic vision for the university this morning at the Bill Reid Gallery in downtown Vancouver which houses SFU’s $10 million Northwest Art Collection.
After a year-long consultation process which included talking to students, staff and the community, SFU developed a strategic vision to become “the engaged university”.
“We want to become the most community-engaged research university,” said Petter.
The plan hopes to engage students, research and the community in a way that will allow all three to flourish. The idea is to engage students with skills outside of the classroom through opportunities such as co-ops, to engage research through knowledge mobilization and to engage communities in ways that make a positive difference.
